Japanese porcelain bowl with brass surround

£ 18.00

In this small but deceptively heavy bowl is an unusual collaboration of materials and nations: described as Japanese Porcelainware and decorated in Hong Kong. The wonderful ochre-coloured decoration is of exotic bird and butterfly in a setting of flowers, trees and leaves.

The maker ACF habitually had ceramic items enamelled in Hong Kong, a practice that flourished during the 1960’s and 1970’s but died out when soaring property prices made factories for this kind of craft completely unviable.

The bowl is framed beautifully in the brass surround giving the whole piece a substantial and classy feel.
